Monday Afternoon Report: Copycat ~The Rationale of Originality~

Hi guys. Just unhappy, and here to let it all out. Actually, it’s more of a coincidence, and with the recent (maybe I’m outdated liao) release of Cyndi Wang’s new album, particularly one song that was an Insert Song for her leading drama. I guess till here you guys can guess what I am talking about already. This is SO insulting in some other way…

If you’re a Cyndi fan, it’s 下一页的我, or “The Next Me” in English. Here:

In comparison, for Ikimono fans, or if you already know which song this melody corresponds to (oh man YouTube sucks, and I only found a live version):

Yeah. I don’t wanna say much, but belittling a hit song like two years ago in Japan is seriously… unbecoming. I, have seen plenty of examples where this came from. Just in 2010 too STEREOPONY took BIvattchee as their cover song to… cover their other songs? And yeah I agree if the song sounds better or the same is of no comment to me, but worse? Well, look what happened here. Even if Cyndi likes the melody, taking it for her own album is kinda… unexplainable.

And to sum up, if you ever liked Cyndi, at least look at the comments the people wrote. One wrote: {Translation in square brackets]
”跟原版 いきものがかり-YELL 唱功差距太大了= ="
[Compared to the original (Ikimonogakari’s YELL) the standard is a far (from the original)]
不過原版算是日本的神曲了
[But the original is seriously a hit of Japan]
王心凌敢挑戰這首.......只能說勇氣可嘉= ="  給你拍拍手
[Cyndi dared to take a challenge on this… (I) could say she has the courage. A round of applause for you]

Thanks, a16816816811 for giving such an honest opinion. Honestly, it’s not really who took the song for their cover song or for any other reason. The whole rationale, is about uniqueness. Especially the melody, where people will remember it for life even if they forget the lyrics (you see some shows are refreshing out memories out there). So, if much as possible, copying melodies is so… you might as well sing the original…

[P.S.: Hah, "The Next Me” – The Copycat.]
